Installing TimberLuxe
Acoustic Panels

A straightforward DIY project for confident renovators. For customers wanting the highest quality finish on feature walls, corners, television cut-outs or complex installations, TimberLuxe Professional Installation is available throughout Melbourne.

Designed for straightforward installation.

TimberLuxe acoustic wall panels create a refined architectural finish without an unnecessarily complicated installation process. For confident renovators, the panels can be installed on suitable plaster, timber and masonry surfaces using a quality construction adhesive, mechanical fixings or a combination of both.

Each panel should be carefully measured and planned before installation. The timber slat wall panels can be trimmed with standard woodworking tools, while openings for corners, switches and other wall features can be prepared with a fine-tooth saw or jigsaw.

Correct preparation and alignment are essential—particularly across large walls or where the installation includes corners, ceilings, televisions or electrical fittings. Customers who prefer a seamless result can use TimberLuxe’s professional acoustic panel installation service, available throughout Melbourne.

Five steps to a professional result

Careful planning and preparation are the foundations of a premium installation. Review the process before you begin.

1

Measure & Plan

Measure the height and width of your wall carefully and plan your panel layout before cutting. Confirm your starting point and the number of panels required. If you’re unsure, contact our team and we’ll help you work out the right quantity.

2

Mark & Cut

Apply paper tape where the panel will be cut and mark your cut line on the tape with a pencil. Cut using a sharp, fine-toothed saw for a clean finish. A track saw or circular saw is ideal for straight cuts.

3

Trim & Finish

For lengthways adjustments, the felt backing can be trimmed carefully with a sharp utility knife. Lightly sand any cut timber edges until smooth for a clean, professional finish.

4

Position & Fix

Position the panel against the wall and check that it is straight, aligned and sitting flush. Secure through the felt between the slats using suitable screws, or for a permanent installation apply panel adhesive around the perimeter and in a zigzag through the centre.

5

Final Check

Check panel alignment, joins, edges and fixings across the completed wall. Make any final adjustments, then step back and enjoy your finished TimberLuxe feature wall.

Everything to consider before beginning your

TimberLuxe wall.

Can I install the panels myself?

Yes. TimberLuxe panels are suitable for confident DIY renovators experienced in measuring, cutting and fixing interior products. The process is relatively straightforward on a clean, flat wall without complicated corners or fittings. Precise planning matters because small variations become noticeable across a larger wall. For complex projects or customers wanting a seamless premium appearance, we recommend professional installation.

Can acoustic panels be installed on plaster walls?

Yes. Acoustic wall panels can be installed on suitable plasterboard or solid plaster surfaces, provided the wall is dry, clean, flat and structurally sound. Depending on the project, panels may be secured with suitable construction adhesive, screws into studs, or a combination of both. Repair loose paint, damaged plaster and significant surface irregularities before installation.

Can the panels be installed on brick or masonry?

Yes. Timber wall panels can be installed over suitable brick, concrete or masonry. The surface should be reasonably flat, clean and free from moisture, dust and loose material. Suitable adhesive and masonry fixings may be used, while uneven exposed brick may require battens or preliminary preparation. We recommend professional installation where the masonry is irregular or difficult to assess.

Can acoustic panels be installed on ceilings?

Ceiling installation may be possible where the structure, panel specification and fixing system are suitable. Overhead applications place different loads on fixings, so adhesive alone should not be relied upon unless expressly approved. Appropriate mechanical fixing into the supporting structure is generally required. Contact TimberLuxe before purchasing panels for a ceiling project.

How long does installation take?

Installation time depends on the wall size, site conditions and the number of cuts, corners or fittings. A straightforward feature wall may be completed within 3-4 hours, while larger or more detailed projects can take longer. TimberLuxe can review your wall photographs and project information before confirming the likely installation requirements.

Can the panels be removed later?

Yes, although the amount of wall repair required depends on the fixing method. Mechanically fixed panels are generally easier to remove, but screw holes remain. Construction adhesive may pull away paint, plaster surface material or plasterboard during removal. If future removal is likely, a mechanically fixed or batten-based installation may be preferable.

What tools are required?

A typical installation may require a tape measure, pencil, level, square, suitable construction adhesive and applicator, drill or driver, and fixings appropriate for the wall. A circular saw with a fine-tooth blade is generally used for straight cuts, with a jigsaw for detailed openings. Always use suitable eye, hearing and respiratory protection.

Can I cut around power points and switches?

The panel material can be carefully cut around existing power points and switches using accurately measured openings. However, do not remove, disconnect, relocate or refit electrical equipment yourself. In Victoria, electrical installation work must be completed by an appropriately licensed electrician.
